Staying motivated

This morning I read a quote by Leo Buscaglia that says ” Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

Then I went and taught my Global Citizen class and we were discussing moral codes and ethics.  We were talking about what would you do if….

  • you saw a person put something in someone’s drink - would you tell?

  • you saw a person you know mug another person you know - would you call 911?

  • you knew that someone was cheating on a mid-term exam - would you tell?

The class and I came to the realization that its always the little things that make the difference.  Would you tell~most of them said yes, but its always the little factors that get in our way.

I came back full circle to the quote.   It is the small gestures that make a difference. It is a smile, a kind word, a hug.  Those are the things we value the most.  Yes, its important to do the big stuff, but it is the small daily stuff, of listening and being there, giving a hug just because or because a shoulder is needed. This is what connects us to each other.  This is what life is about.

Taking one step forward

Today I spent the day looking at what I wanted to do.  This morning I read about a  static stating that 95% of people who go to seminars or read books never do anything with the information. I thought what?  Then I started thinking, I guess I had better hold that mirror up and look at myself.   I don’t want to be part of that stat.  I am a doer, not just a weekend seminar junky.

So here is my blog.  I will keep them short, cause I like short blogs.  Occassional I am sure that I will find something that I just have to share and it might be long but I wanted to start.  Today was the day to write the first blog, write the first words and get it out there.

I am not that stat and I hope you won’t be either.
